Dog Crate Training 101
A few people use crates to help train their dogs and thinks that using one is evil, cruel and oppressive. However, if you have never used one, you'll definitely want to look at the advantages.
Most dogs consider the crate as their personal area. This is particularly true if they have been using the crate since they were a puppy. In fact, pups do not see the crate as a prison, but rather as their home. If the crate is in a place where the dog has the ability to go in and out, dog will use the crate as a place to sleep on their own.
If your dog is comfortable with the crate, the dog will be more than content to be in it whenever you leave the house. You also won't have to worry about your dog chewing and breaking things when you're not at home.
Often, crates can be perfect when you have little kids in the house. The dog takes advantage of this area to escape while he wants to be left alone. Thus, it is important to warn your kids to never use it for playing in and to be aware that this space belongs to the dog only.
Crate training can also avoid housebreaking as dogs don't like to clutter their quarters and a dog that sleeps inside a cage is less likely to have injuries. Keep in mind that the dog must be let out at frequent intervals, particularly when it is still a puppy. You don't want your dog to do its business inside the cage as this could develop into a habit if left in it for too long.
Crate training can also be useful for helping with many other commands. You can use it for a time out to spot if your dog starts to play rowdy especially if it is still a puppy. You can even use the crate to keep the pet calm if you have if you have friends who are not dog lovers.
Dog crates can be a very helpful training device and in many different ways can help make living with a pet a lot easier. If you're considering getting a puppy, you really should look at the value of getting a crate.
